Why We Trek
We go on Trek to strengthen our faith in Christ. The stories we hear, the experiences we reenact, all lead to that purpose – strengthening our faith in Christ. Trek is like no other experience and gives us a perspective we can’t get anywhere else. It helps us put our own lives in perspective. It helps us know what is important, and it helps us dedicate our lives to Christ, just as the pioneer’s were dedicated to Him.
Yes, Trek is hard – we walk a long ways, working together to pull our handcarts. But it is one of the most powerful, life-changing experiences you will have, and it will strengthen your faith in Christ. President Nelson said, "In the coming days it will not be possible to survive spiritually without the guiding, directing, comforting, and constant influence of the Holy Ghost." As we work together and have fun together on our Trek journey we have the opportunity to come closer to the spirit and learn to better recognize its' influence in our life.
Our theme, “Trust In The Lord” (taken from Youth Theme for 2022) helps remind us that we need to choose to trust the Lord with all of our heart, not just part of it. That means believing Him even when things get hard or answers don’t seem to come right away.
The pioneer trek provides an intimate experience in fulfilling the words of Malachi, it will “turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers.” It will provide our youth with experiences and wisdom they can draw on as they face their own individual challenges in their personal trek through life. At the end of this trek, there will be an increased love and closeness among the youth and their leaders that will provide a renewed dedication to living the gospel of Jesus Christ.
